Silent Thunder
Mother and son team Iris and Roy Johansen, noted thriller authors on their own, have teamed up to give us Silent Thunder, a tangled treasure hunt thriller.
Hannah Bryson, renowned submarine designer and engineer, is hired to perform a safety check on an out of service Russian nuclear sub that the United States has purchased. Along with her brother Connor, she is charged with ensuring that the sub is safe enough to be turned into a museum piece.
A routine examination turns deadly when they make a strange discovery on the sub, which is followed by a brutal attack that rocks Hannah's world. Driven by revenge, Hannah is determined to make sense of the discovery they made and of the shadowy cast of characters that are looking over her shoulder.
Along with a intriguing Russian, Kirov, who may or may not be who he says he is, Hannah races to find the ultimate treasure.
Seamlessly written by two very different authors in terms of style and characterization, Silent Thunder will keep you guessing right through the roller coaster ride ending.
Although the smoldering love/hate aspect of their relationship does become somewhat taxing in certain sections of the book, here's hoping that we see both Hannah Bryson and Kirov again. Just maybe not together.
Highly recommended.
